The Feel-Good Caribbean Vibe - English

                                                                             Mr. Fete

'Mr. Fete', by the highly acclaimed Trinidadian artist Machel Montano, is just one example of what the Caribbean really has to offer in terms of feel-good music. A true pioneer of soca music, Montano's long list of music generally portrays a care-free environment with no worries in sight. Mr. Fete displays a persona that Montano takes on, which is known for being the center of attraction and having a good time. This is essentially why he is dubbed King of Soca, because his impact has been immense on the soca genre and the various cultural events such as fetes, mas, and carnival.

Feel Like Winin'
Similar to Montano's feel-good vibe, the artist from The Bahamas Shine conveys a style of pure fun. The song 'Feel Like Winin' interestingly enough goes into a more subtle feel within its verses telling a story of why Shine feels a good vibe. Moreover, the song explains a feeling of gratitude for life's lessons and overcoming them, and as a result of this he wants to have a good time. The song is of the rake 'n scrape genre, but also has a subtle hint of a soca/calypso feel.

                                                                               Hookin Meh

Farmer Nappy, a Trinidadian artist who has worked with Machel Montano on multiple occasions, released 'Hookin Meh' in 2018 and to date has had over 20 million streams on YouTube alone. The song tells a story of a woman who is leaving him. Farmer Nappy presents the story in a light-hearted manner explaining how his wife "pack all mi clothes in a garbage bag, she put it on the ground on the roadside". In this respect, Farmer Nappy is an amazing story-teller because his songs speak about issues in a joking manner. By giving this comedic music, he is very similar to his Trinidadian counterpart Montano.

Too Real

Another Trinidadian powerhouse, Kerwin Du Bois, leaves us to wonder if Trinidad holds the best Caribbean artists, but there are too many artists to choose from. In 'Too Real', Du Bois mentions a very important theme in Caribbean society. "That Bumpa is Too Real" is self-explanatory in that it speaks about the appreciation for female figure in the Caribbean. The song is reminiscent of Mr. Fete because it promotes the value of having a good time in ways that are so vital to Caribbean culture.

Endless Wuk
.
Another amazing tune from the catalogue of 'The King of Soca' is Endless Wuk', highlights the greatness of carnival festivities. Through the lyrics alone, the listener can picture a party and having a good time. Machel Montano has undoubtedly taken soca to another level. With a myriad of feel-good songs, his music is sure to last for generations to come and is currently topping the charts for carnival entertainment. He has definitely captured the entire English-speaking Caribbean countries with his charismatic songs and performances. With Carnival continually spreading to more Caribbean countries and even the United States, Montano's name and legacy is surely an important stamp in Caribbean history.

Dead Drunk

An absolutely new piece by the iconic Bahamian artist Jonny Cake, 'Dead Drunk' exemplifies the party life of any Caribbean islander. 'Drinking Rum' is a most certainly vital part of any islander's life. The description of this lifestyle is amazingly depicted by Jonny Cake. A subtle mix between Soca and rake 'n scrape, this song could not have been better. Similar to nearly all Soca music, this song is simply about going out, drinking and having a good time.
